Brain Health MATTERS!!!!!

I'm currently into module 6 of the Keto Mastery course and it has been an amazing journey so far. I've learnt so much about more health in the last 6 months than I've learnt through my almost 40 years of being alive!

Here's one of the things that Ive learnt.

What we need to understand, and this has been documented over and over again, is that as we age, our ability to utilise glucose as a fuel goes down. The older we get, the less able we are to utilise glucose as a fuel source.

This has also been referred to as Type 3 Diabetes; When you’re healthy, your cells can sense insulin, it can normally take up and utilise glucose at the cellular level.

In Type 1 Diabetes, your pancreas isn’t able to produce insulin, that’s why you need to deliver it exogenously.

In Type 2 Diabetes, you are producing insulin. It’s just that the receptors on the cell are resistant to taking up and utilising glucose.

Type 3 Diabetes is very similar to Type 2 Diabetes, except that it’s in the brain.

Our brains are becoming more and more insulin resistant thereby unable to utilise glucose as its primary fuel source.

Studies have shown that as we get older cerebral glucose metabolism is going down, almost in a linear fashion. The older we get, the less able we are to utilise glucose as a fuel source.

This is also known as Brain Hypometabolism. This leads down a vicious cycle, a lot of it not only leading to Alzheimer’s, but also other neurological disorders like Parkinson’s and dementia.

People suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury (concussions, falls, car crashes) also suffer from short term dysfunction of the brain caused by blunt or mechanical force causing the brain to be starving for energy.

How can ketones provide fuel to the brain?

Ketones are a more efficient source of energy than glucose and it can: -

* Stimulate mitochondria biogenesis

* Help improve energy metabolism

When glucose utilisation is impaired, ketone uptake and utilisation is not.

This is why my mum, my dad, my grandmother and some of my other family members are drinking ketones. Sure it helps keep us slim as well, but the benefits are way more than just how we look.

By the way, if you wanna know how to get your ketones for free, me drop me a DM. Shhhhh don't tell anyone!! 🤫
